single-payer system, dubai, praise v. criticism

atul gawande is a great writer.  he reminds me of house of god.  here’s an article he wrote in the new yorker a few weeks ago: The Cost Conundrum.

a few years ago, i almost fell in love with the magic that is dubai.  something always told me not to.  i would see those pictures of snowboarding in the desert, or renting a hotel room underwater, or even visiting the lobby of the world’s only 7 star hotel for $80 and think that this is not viable.  it’s like the pyramids.  read this article about The dark side of Dubai.

Last, but not least, ibn Hazm.  I don’t really know much about him, but I’ve heard his name a few times by Sheikh Anwar, YQ, and Yasir Birjas.  Learn to love criticism and despise praise => Pearls of Wisdom.
